For deduction of a cowl the cowl lock 9 (fig. 10.19) shtyrevy type which fastens to the top panel of a radiator serves in a closed position at the movement of the car. For opening of the lock of a cowl there is a remote drive fixed on the left forward rack of a cabin under the dashboard. For opening of the lock of a cowl it is necessary to pull the handle of the drive on itself; the latch of the lock of a cowl has to move against the stop and release the cowl lock probe — the cowl will rise on 30 — 36 mm. After opening of the lock the handle of the drive needs to be returned to a starting position, the lock latch, but under the influence of a latch spring respectively has to return to a starting position also.
The cowl probe, probe flange, spring and stopper of the probe are fixed on a cowl. At the correct installation of a cowl, performance of necessary adjustments the probe of a cowl has to enter freely a cup of the lock and be fixed accurately by a latch in a closed position. At correctly adjusted probe the cowl has to have in a closed position movement on edge of 1 — 2 mm.
For protection from casual opening of a cowl at the movement the hook safety lock fixed on a cowl and entering gearing with the cowl lock serves. To make adjustment of gearing of a hook safety lock with the lock subflexible a hook.
To make adjustment of the lock of a cowl and its details in cases of replacement (repair) of a cowl, the lock and drive of the lock.
In the first case adjustments of the probe of the lock of a cowl and a hook safety lock and small longitudinal adjustment of the lock are made generally.
In the second and third cases at first regulate operation of the drive (that the latch of the lock moved against the stop), and then carry out adjustments of the probe and a hook safety lock.
Before operation of the car it is necessary to check operation of the lock at an open cowl for what a hand to take away to the right a lock latch, and then to release it; under the influence of a spring the latch has to come back to extreme left situation against the stop in the case. If it does not occur, then it is necessary to remove the lock and to saw a groove under a latch that it reached against the stop in the lock case. After that to put the lock on the former place.
After check of operation of the lock to check operation of the drive for what at an open cowl to pull the handle of the drive on itself and to leave it in this situation; the latch of the lock has to move to the right and completely release a lock cup for a cowl probe exit. If it does not occur, then it is necessary "to straighten" the end of draft of the drive of the lock of a cowl, to weaken a bolt 11 and to remove a nut 10. To return the handle of the drive of the lock of a cowl to a starting position, to take flat-nose pliers and to pull draft on itself as far as possible, and then to fix it by a nut 10 and a bolt 11 and again to check operation of the drive. At positive result to bend the end of draft of the drive for prevention of movement of a nut 10.
The lock does not demand special service. At increase of effort when opening the lock a cowl in use it is necessary to disconnect the lock drive from the lock as it is described above, drive brackets, bolts of fastening of the drive, to remove all drive from the car, to release draft, to clear it and to wipe, then to grease with TsIATIM-201 lubricant, either LITAS, or Litol-24. To assemble the drive, to install it into place and to implement the recommendations given above.
