10.1.16. Screen wiper

On the car the screen wiper with the electric drive on two brushes is established. The screen wiper electric motor with a reducer and system of driving levers settles down in motor office.
The screen wiper consists of the electric motor with a reducer, the bases, lever system, brushes, a bimetallic safety lock and the trailer switch.
The worm of a reducer is executed as the uniform block with an electric motor shaft. In gearing with a worm there is a worm wheel with which axis the lever system of the drive and brushes is connected.
Management of a screen wiper and washer of a windshield is carried out by the switch located on a steering column.
After switching off of the switch the electric motor is not switched off at once and brushes continue to move on glass until reach the lower situation. The trailer switch will switch a chain to this moment and the electric motor will stop.

Maintenance
To periodically grease hinged connections of drafts of a screen wiper. It is necessary to produce lubricant engine oil on 5 drops in each point of connection.
For receiving good cleaning of a windshield it is necessary to watch constantly a condition of a surface of glass, without allowing on it the oil spots preventing removal of moisture. The rubber tape of brushes needs to be protected from influence of oil and gasoline.
In order to avoid damage of a windshield it is necessary to remember:
- in the presence on glass of dry dust and dirt it is impossible to include a screen wiper;
- if it is necessary to remove screen wiper brushes, it is recommended to put on pieces of a rubber tube the ends of levers.
The rubber tape of a brush has to be elastic, rectilinear and not have defects on all length adjacent to edge glass. Under these conditions the brush has to wipe plentifully moistened glass no more, than for five double courses at a small speed. If necessary installation of brushes is made as follows:
- to remove levers of brushes from axes;
- to include a screen wiper and in 1 — 2 minutes of work to switch off;
- to install levers with brushes. Brushes have to settle down along the lower plastic facing of glass, but not concern it. To enshrine levers in such provision;
- to include a screen wiper. During the work of a brush should not concern facing. If brushes hit against facing or after switching off stop too highly, then it is necessary to change installation of levers to axes a little.

At failure of a screen wiper it is necessary to define that it is faulty — a screen wiper or the switch. For this purpose it is necessary to disconnect a shtekerny block from the switch (it is under the dashboard) and to connect shtekerny tips of a block (which remained on a plait of the wires going to a screen wiper), as shown in rice. 9.45, And for the small speed and fig. 9.45, B for high speed.
If the screen wiper begins to work, it indicates malfunction of the switch and if it is not present, the screen wiper is faulty.

For check of operability of the screen wiper removed from the car it is necessary to connect a shtekerny block of a screen wiper according to the scheme shown on rice. 9.46 (the lamp 2 will blink). If the screen wiper works at small and big speeds, and does not work in the faltering mode, to check serviceability of the relay of faltering work.

Screen wiper relay
For creation of faltering work of a screen wiper the electronic relay of a screen wiper 524.3747 is used.
At inclusion of a screen wiper in a faltering operating mode it has to do 7 — 19 cycles a minute.
Serviceability of the relay can be checked only during the work with a screen wiper. The faulty relay is subject to replacement.

Windscreen washer consists of a tank in which the pump with the drive from the electric motor, jets and hoses (fig. 9.49) is installed.
As working liquid water is applied, and at a temperature below 0 °C — the Review liquid produced three brands:
And — for ambient temperature to minus 35 °C,
B — for ambient temperature to minus 20 °C,
In — for ambient temperature to minus 5 °C.
Maintenance
Maintenance of windscreen washer consists in periodic check of tightness of hoses in places of their accession to tips and jets, washing of jets and the filter of absorptions, washing of a tank and filling with its pure liquid.
The direction of streams of water from jets can be regulated turn of balls of jets.
